Different Tree Types

Trees are crucial for our survival. They provide us with two main ingredients for life, food and oxygen. In addition, trees have been used to create shelter, to extract medicine for illnesses, and to create tools to further the creation of the civilizations we know today. Now, all the trees in the world are not the same. There are deciduous trees, coniferous trees, and evergreen trees. Trees can also be classified as softwood and hardwood tree types. But what does this mean?

Let's start with deciduous trees, coniferous trees, and evergreen trees. Deciduous trees usually have green leaves that change color to bright red, yellow or orange in the fall.

During winter, the leaves of deciduous trees usually fall off. Some examples of deciduous trees are fruit, nut, and maple trees.

Now, evergreens usually have darker green shoots or spiky needles. When these shoots or needles fall, a new one grows in the same place and thus comes the name of these trees, as they stay green all year round. Evergreen trees stay green usually also even during winter! Furthermore, some evergreen trees grow cones. These trees are known as coniferous trees.

Now, what is the difference between hardwood and softwood. Well, as the name implies, softwoods tend to have softer woods than hardwoods. But the main difference is that hardwood grow flowers and softwood trees are coniferous.
